Captain, Midnight Express

Olympus Dive Center is pleased to have Mike Gerken back for his second year as the captain of the Midnight Express. Mike started his diving career in 1980 and spent the next several years after college balancing a corporate lifestyle with a diving career, ultimately giving into his passion. In 1999, Mike took a job as a dive operations manager of a remote African dive camp in Mozambique. After 6 months he returned to the US where he spent the next four years working off the coast of North Carolina, two of which were spent as the First Mate on the Midnight Express. In 2003, Mike became the 2nd captain of the luxury liveaboard Truk Aggressor II located in Chuuk, Micronesia, home of some of the best wreck diving in the world! It was in there, diving the wrecks of the famous Japanese Fleet that Mike developed apassion for underwater photography. Mike’s next diving assignment found him as Captain of undoubtedly one of the best live aboard dive vessels in the world, the Odyssey. In July 08, Mike took a leave from the Odyssey in order to promote his other hobby, underwater photography and videography through art.
